SMUD Just Raised Its EV Circuit Rebate to $750 — Here’s What Sacramento Homeowners Need to Know

A Bigger Rebate for Your Next EV Charger Installation

SMUD has raised its Charge@Home rebate for EV circuit installation from $500 to $750, effective October 1, 2026 — a 50% increase that makes adding a Level 2 EV charger at home more affordable for Sacramento-area homeowners.

If you’ve been putting off installing a home EV charger in Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, Folsom, Citrus Heights, or anywhere else in SMUD’s service area, this is a good time to move. Gubrud’s Services is a SMUD-approved electrical contractor, so we handle the circuit installation and the rebate paperwork together — no separate applications to track down.

What Changed

The circuit installation rebate is just one part of SMUD’s Charge@Home program, which also offers separate rebates toward the EV charger itself and any circuit-sharing or energy management device you install alongside it.

Which Rebate Applies to You

SMUD determines eligibility by when the installation sale was completed, not when you applied:

• Sales completed on or before September 30, 2026 qualify for the $500 rebate
• Sales completed on or after October 1, 2026 qualify for the new $750 rebate

If your installation is still in the planning stage, timing it after October 1 means an extra $250 back.
